Future stuff...
We know the 3.5v6 is coming next year (is it still called the Cyclone?). We don't know its HP yet, tho Edmunds claims 245, more reliable sources confirm a 270hp version coming (and more). Maybe they're both right - one tuned for max MPG, the other for power. Here's how I'd deploy it.

Mercury Marquis - 255hp? base engine (opt: mod4.6v8)
Mercury Milan - 245hp (opt any trim level)

Galaxie - base engine?
Hmmm...
I just mentioned a Galaxie! and what happened to the 'grand' before Marquis?
We know FML has budgeted $300million to update the Panthers' factory -
$100m in 2006cy and $200m in 2008cy. Here's how I might handle that.
2006cy/2007my
The first $100million get spent mainly on drivetrains.
The 3-valve modV8 (~300hp) replaces a the lower power versions. 6speed
trannies go in to complement it.
Now comes the risky part... I'd suspend retail sales of the CrownVic -
it'd be available only for taxis and copcars. The Marquis, in addition
to its shortened name, gets shorter overhangs. However the wheelbase
grows up to the 117.7" one, 208" ovl. The TownCar-L's 123.7" wheelbase
becomes std but its length tightens up from 221.4 to a more svelt 216.
I'll freshen the dash 'face' (dashtop stays the same) and redo all the
trim pieces: ip-console-dash, and integrate new door panel trim. But
that's about it for now. Done well, it should be enough.
The exteriors... the TC gets minimal, low-cost, intermediate changes
(more in 2 years); but the Marquis will change quite a bit. Milan-style
tail lights and grille (with that curved, heavy bottom edge that creates
the 'Mercury smile'). The headlites become more horizontally stretched,
creating more contrast with the vertical waterfall grille.
These Marquis changes coincide with similar styling enhancements to
the Montego. With the 500 being restyled, the Montego also gets its
own roofline with a solid C-pillar. Both tighten their lengths a touch to
just under 200". Mercury's lineup now has a younger and even more
cohesive look.
2008cy/2009my
$200million - This completes the makeover by updating suspensions and
revising the platform to be lighter as well as provide efficient packaging
in 3 lengths.

- Suspensions have been modularized. Ford remains with specific model
tuning, but Mercury gets driver-selected adjustable settings - blvd to sport
& even an increased clearance softroad mode. Lincolns get intelligent,
fully automatic systems with all the 'acronyms'.
- Interiors are all new.
- New names/models complete the transformation for Ford and Lincoln.
Galaxie brings Ford back to the full-size Rwd market, creating a new 'standard'
in size, features, performance. That is not to say it's overly luxurious or
powerful. Rather it raises the bar to a new level of satisfaction that a
standard car can provide. But Lincoln...
- Since this is my plan, Lincoln brings out 3 models (no TC), one in each
size: the Mark coupe, the Mark sedan, and the Continental flagship.
IF they do use the heritage names on the D385 and E386 and stay with
only one size for their big Rwds... call it the Lincoln Panther!
- Possibly a 'best for last', Mercury adds the XR8 model to the Marquis line,
to be all the recent Marauder never was. Included std. are a performance v8 &
unique roofline, trim, & colors inside and out. Due to all Mercurys having
adjustable suspensions, a specific XR8 suspension 'tune' is NOT needed.
More about styling
Lincoln will be what its fans have known all along it should look like. Sport
models have lower rooflines, the sedans' are higher for a formal appearance
and more interior space. Multiple grille styles are offered as option/styling
packages. Possibly add a Sentinel sport coupe based on the D2C.
Mercury sedans and coupes all offer a dual-back, including the Focus-sized
XR3. Sport/top-hp models use the MetaOne-style grille with scoops. Possible
XR8 sport sedan on the 114/192 size - note: usually Mercurys will be a touch
shorter than the equivalent Fords - allowing more differentiation from the Lincolns
which get the longest versions.
Ford has such a large lineup that it actually uses several distinct themes.
1 All 'new' edge influence (not just Focus) is GONE! Can't say what it will be
like... other than HOT... and modern. Imagine a smaller gen2 Fusion - with
only passing resemblance to the Iosis, possibly some GR1.
2 Mustang themes infiltrate more of the lineup... including the 500's front clip...
OR better yet - the GALAXIE's (as suggested @BON)
3 People movers of ALL sizes are influenced by the Freestyle2 (nee Fairlane).
4 The 49 and 427 remain concepts only but thier successor (the 4000?) is the
direct inspiration for the Galaxie (& possibly a 2 door version as Thunderbird).
5 The smaller utility models will all use the front of the Bronco concept.
6 All truck-based vehicles take 'the tough' up a notch, rivalling Hummer.
