Hello GORGEOUS!
I'm not worried anymore ^^^
Imho the C-FX's design can easily be adapted to the production XF & it won't surprise me if they bring out the 2+2 concept version itself after the sedan is up'n'running. But more importantly, it opens up so many paths they can take for future evolutions! Before the C-XF, could anyone imagine what the next XJ or the 2020 lineup would look like without being retro?

Thinking of applying this vision to the XK, it's like 'Gorgeous Goes to the Gym' or even 'Gorgeous Grows Up'... totally a new Classic! a New CANVAS... DNA without Retro, who knew? As the styling sinks in, it seems the C-XF is perhaps the first car designed in 3D - meaning I can imagine the design of the Bottom of the car - not like cheap furniture where the back is plain presswood - this does not seem to be a metal-tent top-hatted over the mechanicals. Even tho it has a tech basis, to me it looks like the Form 'grew' to embody Function - it's all related.

Wonder which division Mr. Callum will transform next...

Sep 2006:
well, I've been all around this and missed the target... until it was (apparently inadvertently) spelled out in a post elsewhere:
bring the Iosis/Mondeo to the US and sell it through Jaguar!
Exclusivity, euro-design AND well... euro-everything, it really is euro! It would (more than?) makeup for the loss of X-type sales, offer a lower-than-Jag price with No repercusions on the JAGUAR name, and be sold by dealers familiar with the needs of that demographic - heck, it is the X-type reborn. Bring it As Is, no Jag grille or label; bring the higher trim - add more later if needed; bring it by the time the Casino Royale movie comes out; just BRING IT
...and let Gorgeous be GORGEOUS

my guess at how the 'XF' (or XJ?) might look.

Add a SX-type 5 door to replace the X-type?

(also see XC-series addition below)
possible future Jaguar lineups
XJ series wlb ovl XJ-S* shortened wheelbase saloon 115 192 $60- 80k XJ standard 119 200 $75-100k XJ-L long wheelbase 123 208 $90-110k Similar to what I've read they're doing - basing a new S on the XJ platform - but also moving further upscale, besting MB & BMW, equaling the coming 'entry-level' Bentleys & RR's. All would make extensive use of aluminium. Rwd v6, v8, & v12 gas & diesel, plus Awd hybrid versions for the US. Styling, at first, is identical with shared fenders, frt&rear windscreens, dashpanels. Doors are specific to model. Also, hoods and trunks (bonnets and boots) extend further as size increases. Unified (avant garde) styling is in attempt to get one superlative design exactly right. Possibily, divergent styling at refresh. Top models should reach Aston Martin price levels. Aug'07 Percentage of aluminium may vary by trim level as well as model: S 20-60%, J 40-80%, L 60-100%. & * compare size & prices to the new XF XK series XK2 2 seat sportscar - coupe, targa,'vert 102 180 $40-65k XK4 4 seat sportLux - coupe,c.cabrio 110 190 $60-90k The sportscars are an evolution of the E-type not the XJS, XJR, nor ALC. XK2 includes v6 & v8 and a 'basic' version of both for 'fun' and pricepoint as well as higher priced luxury editions. Only the basic v6 coupe is $39,900. XK4 is luxury sport only - europe: v6, v8, & v12; US: v8 & v12 - room for 4 adults, not "2+2". These would have to stay under Aston Martin prices.

Dec'06:
XC series
(Once again) suggesting a CLS-ish approach - building super-swoopy,
4-passenger-4-doors. Sized about half way from the XK2 to the XJ-S,
and half way from the XK4 to the XJ; with the upper model again using
all-aluminium construction. Maybe the smaller could have a dual-back
hatch? and the larger be a sliding-glass-roof hard'vert-alternative?
Styling would be extreme - ultra modern - swoopier than the XK's.
XC 6 and 8 cylinders ??? 187 $40-60k
XCC 8 cylinders only ??? 196 $65-85k

J series   (Sep'06:  *cough* ROVER *cough*)
Estate & SuperEstate - 5door 112 188	$37-45,45-55k
Estate = Rwd-Awd, v6, gas & diesel & hybrid. High design & quality
over luxury (no wood? half-leather only? ac not climate?). One trim,
relatively high featured, few options.
SuperEstate = Awd v8 and supercharged v8. Adds the luxury as standard,
few options.
The idea is sort of a 2-tier Acura-TL-like wagon. The base has a
designer-workout/best-quality-tool feel to it, practical quality
"you don't have to be careful with". The Super is the handyman in
evening-wear.
The following year the steroid version is released. Higher (adj?)
ride height, taller roof, lengthened to offer 3rd row seating; but
same styling, not truck/suv-like, not 'trail rated'.
Safari & SuperSafari - tall 5door 7pass 117 195	$45-52,53-60k
If this approach succeeds, the line is then expanded with:
Saloon & SuperSaloon - 4door 112 188	$35-42,43-50k

By introducing the Estates and Safaris first, the idea of a practical
Jaguar is hopefully established as not being out of character. Design,
and build & materials quality is key. Then an 'affordable' sedan/saloon
will seem natural and not forced. The outcome would be a 3 part lineup:
the 'big guns' aluminium sedans, sportscars, and the Super and base-
trim J models.

other thoughts

hmmm... I want a CD3 with an all new front end - the wheels pulled as far forward as
necessary to get 50/50 balance with a 3.2 straight 6 under the hood - style it a bit like
this
- Rwd only - seating for only 2 in the back because of the big tunnel is fine - shape the
back like some previously-done design that no one's using... maybe this one

- minimal overhangs - 4door, 5door touring model (yes, a hatch), & an estate - maybe
call it the ZJ or Z-Type - and go ahead and build it in Mexico...
(didn't the Mayans have a thing for Jaguars?).

Imho, some kind of synergy between Jaguar & Aston Martin (as well as Land Rover) needs to be accomplished immediately. Otherwise...

"Jaguar may NEED to cease to exist as a separate company.

English operations could be taken over by Aston Martin, who would build 1 sedan called simply 'Jaguar' (regular and long wheelbase versions) and 1 sportscar called XK2, in addition to the A-M supercars. The XK2 would serve as an 'entry' level for A-M (ie $50-80k). At the same time, the Jaguar name could be brought over to Ford's under-utilized US factories, to build domestic-only Jaguars.
Their new logo would be a silver jaguar on a green oval."
